Seeing Allah in a Dream

Is the vision of Allah Almighty true in dreams?

In a Hadith Qudsy we read, “Narrated by Ibn Abbas from the Prophet that he said: ‘Tonight, my Lord, may God be blessed and exalted appeared to me in the best image …’” (Narrated by Imam Ahmad (16026) and Tirmidhi (3159).

Al-Hafez said that the people of the scholars said that it is possible to see the Almighty in a dream, and His vision needed interpretation always.

Al-Ghazali said, such as those who see Allah in a dream, His Deity cannot take any form and image, but His Deity ends with a specific definition to the slave by a tangible example of light or other, and that example it true in being a mode of definition. The dreamer will say: I saw God in a dream, but this does not mean that he saw the Being of God, as he can say in the case of other objects.

Al-Nawawi said explaining Sahih Muslim, Ayad said, the scholars agreed that it is permissible to see Allah in a dream, and this is true.

Al-Baghawi said in his book Sharh Al-Sunnah, seeing God in a dream is permissible, if one sees Allah, and He promises paradise, forgiveness or escaping fire, His words and promises are true. If he sees Him looking at him, it is His mercy, and if he sees him looking somewhere else, it is a warning of sins.

I will share here some of what was said concerning the interpretation of dreaming of God Almighty:

  • The vision of God Almighty in a dream a sign of good tidings and evidence of true religion.
  • If the dreamer finds God in a body of light, then this is good news for the great good that will be obtained by God’s permission.
  • The vision of God in a dream talking and looking at the dreamer is proof that God Almighty will grant him mercy and increases His grace upon him.
  • If a person finds that he is speaking to Allah and is close to Him, then this is a good thing for this shows Allah’s satisfaction.
  • The vision of God Almighty in the form of a human being in a dream is evidence that the dreamer is righteous and right.
  • Hearing a voice in the dream as the voice of God shows the significance of the great position and the great thing that the dreamer will receive.
  • If the dreamer finds in a dream that God Almighty mentions him in heaven or calls him by his name, then that is a sign of Allah’s satisfaction.
  • When the dreamer sees God Almighty in the condition of acceptance, good tidings, pleasure and joy in a dream, this may indicate that the dreamer will meet God on the Day of Resurrection.
  • When the dreamer sees God Almighty and is able to look at Him in the dream, this may indicate that the dreamer will be a good servant in the world and enter paradise in the hereafter.
  • When the dreamer sees God warning him of things in a dream, this may indicate that he lives in disobedience and must turn and repent.
  • When the dreamer sees himself in the hands of God in a region he knows, this may indicate that this region will be covered with blessings and goodness. The oppressed will prevail and defeat the oppressors.
  • Talking with God in the dream behind a cover or veil is a sign of the goodness of the dreamer and righteousness of the heart.
  • The vision of God Almighty is an evidence of the healing of the patient, security from fear, and good tidings to human beings in general to grant the desires of their hearts, if it was behind a veil.

So seeing God in a dream is permissible. It is good news of God’s acceptance, an expression of His grace and mercy, the forgiveness of sins, and acceptance of piety. Furthermore, it is an evidence of healing from disease and safety from fear.

Allah is speaking today through dreams and visions. When we understand the true interpretations of these dreams, we can live according to His purpose. He may be speaking to you right now.

Salam. I had a dream there was air coming and blowing on the side of my face and I was surrounded by clouds in the air. I looked down and I was not standing on the ground and I heard a voice whispering in my ears to fear God the creator and to follow his true path. How can I discern and understand the meaning behind the dream please?

    1. Wa alaikum assalam, Shawkat. Thank you for trusting us with your dream and for your kind words. The wind blowing upon your face is a powerful symbol, Allah (SWT) breathed the breath of life into man (Tawrat, Genesis 2:7), and Sayidna Isa Al-Masih (His peace be upon us) said, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes, so it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (Injil, John 3:8). The wind touching your face personally speaks of the Spirit of Allah drawing close to you in an intimate and intentional way. The clouds surrounding you represent the manifest presence and glory of Allah. That you were not standing on the ground suggests that Allah was lifting you out of your earthly, ordinary existence to show you a heavenly reality; a spiritual elevation and a calling away from the things of this world. Most powerfully, the whispered voice calling you to fear Allah and follow His true path is the clearest element of all. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Tawrat, Proverbs 1:7). This voice is not a voice of condemnation, but of invitation; Allah is personally calling you, by name in your spirit, to seek Him sincerely and to find His true path. Sayidna Isa Al-Masih declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (Injil, John 14:6). He is the True Path that the voice was pointing you toward. This dream is a divine command; Allah is awakening your heart, surrounding you with His presence, and urging you not to delay in seeking the Truth. We encourage you to open the Injil and begin reading about Sayidna Isa Al-Masih, for He is calling you to Himself. May Allah bless you and guide your steps. Please do not hesitate to write back; we are here for you.

  4. Alsalamalaikom. I dreamt that I was late for prayer at the mosque and there was no one else when I arrived except a person sitting next to me and he gave me the Injil then the whole scene changed and I felt like I am in paradise with clouds surrounding and bright light coming from the center. What can I understand from my dream if you can help please. Appreciate that a lot.

    1. Wa alaikum assalam, Jad. Thank you for sharing your dream with us and for trusting us to help you understand its meaning. Being late for prayer at the mosque and finding it nearly empty reflects a soul that has been sincerely seeking Allah (SWT), yet perhaps sensing that something deeper is still missing. Allah (SWT) arranged that quiet, personal moment just for you; the single person beside you was no accident, but a divine messenger sent specifically to your heart. The Injil being placed in your hands is the central message of this dream. The very word “Injil” means “good news” in its original language, and classical dream scholars have written that seeing it signifies glad tidings, renewal, and salvation. The Qur’an itself honors the Injil as a revelation from Allah containing guidance and light (Al-Maida 5:46). Allah was not sending you to a crowd; He was speaking directly to you. What followed is breathtaking. The moment the Injil was received, the entire scene transformed into paradise, clouds, light, and a radiant center. That brilliant light is the very presence of Sayidna Isa Al-Masih (His peace be upon us), who declared: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Injil, John 8:12). The transition in your dream, from an empty mosque to a paradise of light, was Allah showing you that what your heart truly seeks is found through receiving His message in the Injil. We encourage you to obtain a copy of the Injil and read it with an open heart, asking Allah sincerely to reveal His truth to you. He who sent you this beautiful dream is faithful to answer. Do not hesitate to reach out; we are here to help.

  5. Salam. I dreamt that while Iwas laying down on my bed I could see the stars as there was no ceiling above and one of the stars light became so bright that I couldn’t see any other star anymore. I felt like I have experienced something sacred or spiritual but couldn’t explain that feeling to anyone after having the dream. Can you interpret what I have experienced in my dream? Many thanks for your help.

    1. Wa Alaikum Assalam, Najwah. Thank you so much for sharing and entrusting us with your dream. The open sky above you, where a ceiling once was, is itself a powerful symbol: Allah (SWT) was removing every barrier between you and the heavens, making you fully open and receptive to a divine encounter. The opening of the heavens is always a moment of revelation and divine nearness, just as the skies opened above Sayidna Isa Al-Masih (His peace be upon us) at His baptism (Injil, Matthew 3:16). Your bed, a place of rest and vulnerability, speaks of a heart that was quiet enough to receive what Allah desired to show you. Among all the stars you saw shining in that open sky, one light grew so overwhelmingly radiant that every other light faded and disappeared entirely. This is no ordinary symbol. Sayidna Isa Al-Masih declares of Himself: “I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star” (Injil, Revelation 22:16). The star that outshone all others in your dream points directly to Him, the Light of the World, as He Himself proclaimed: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Injil, John 8:12). Every other light, every other guide, ideology, or spiritual path, grew dim in His presence because nothing can compare to His glory. The sacred, indescribable feeling you experienced afterward is also deeply meaningful. The peace of Allah “surpasses all understanding” (Injil, Philippians 4:7), and this is precisely why you could not put your experience into words; it was not a feeling produced by the human mind, but one placed directly into your spirit by Allah (SWT) Himself. Allah is drawing you close to Sayidna Isa Al-Masih. He is revealing to you that among all the lights this world offers, only one is truly and completely sufficient. We encourage you to seek Him with all your heart, for He said: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find” (Injil, Matthew 7:7). This dream is not meant to confuse you; it is an invitation. If you would like to learn more or share more of your journey, please do not hesitate to reach out; we are here to help you. May Allah bless your seeking heart!

  7. Salam. I had a strange dream that I was sleeping and then while laying down I saw a big white cloud and a great voice saying I am the way and life. I felt like a breeze was coming as I heard the voice which didn’t sound like anything or anyone I know. I was thinking that may be it is Allah the almighty sending me messages I need to understand but I am not so sure about it. I hope if you can help explain my dream and what it means. Many thanks!

    1. Wa alaikum assalam, Maryam. Thank you for trusting us with your dream and for sharing it with us. This appears to be a truthful vision from Allah (SWT), as these dreams are glad tidings for believers and often come when Allah chooses to reveal knowledge to those whom He wills, according to His infinite wisdom. The white cloud you saw carries great significance, as it represents the divine presence and glory of the Almighty and often appears when Allah reveals Himself to His people. Hearing a voice in a dream shows the significance of a great position and a great thing that you will receive, and when Allah speaks through dreams, it is good news of His acceptance and an expression of His grace and mercy. The breeze you felt is deeply meaningful, as wind and breath represent the Spirit of Allah moving and speaking. Most significantly, the words “I am the way and life” are the very words spoken by Sayidna Isa Al-Masih (His peace be upon us) as recorded in the Injil, where He declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (Injil, John 14:6). The vision of Isa Al-Masih in a dream is a vision of truth and brings peace to the soul, casting out fear and declaring salvation, for He has come to save many and His vision gives reassurance to the soul. This dream is indeed Allah sending you a message. He is revealing to you that Sayidna Isa Al-Masih is the path to knowing Him fully. The Qur’an itself testifies that Sayidna Isa has performed great miracles that no one else has, and He knows the unseen. This is an invitation to seek and follow Sayidna Isa, for through Him, Allah is calling you into a deeper relationship and eternal life. May Allah give you wisdom and courage to respond to this gracious revelation. Do not hesitate to write us if you have any questions.

  8. Alsalam Alaykoum. I had a dream that I was in a very big garden so beautiful and full of light that I didn’t see like before. There were rivers, animals, flowers and trees of all shapes full of what looks like very delicious fruits. I saw from distance what looked like a golden throne and it was surrounded by big foggy cloud that you can hardly see through it. Did I see the throne of God the almighty? Is the meaning of the dream good for me? Hope to find answers with my best regards

    1. Wa Alaikum Alsalam, Jamal. Thank you for writing and sharing your dream with us. The beautiful garden you saw represents Paradise itself, a place of extraordinary beauty, abundant life, and the manifest presence of Allah’s glory. The exceptional light you witnessed reflects the divine illumination of Allah’s dwelling place, where there is no need for sun or moon because God’s glory provides the light (Injil, Revelation 21:23). The rivers, lush vegetation, and fruit-bearing trees align perfectly with the Injil’s descriptions of the Garden of Eden and the heavenly Paradise, where the river of life flows and the tree of life bears fruit for the healing of nations (Injil, Revelation 22:1-2). The animals living in perfect harmony represent the restored creation where all things exist in peace under Allah’s sovereignty. The golden throne surrounded by clouds that you saw from a distance is indeed consistent with Injil’s visions of Allah’s throne, which is described as surrounded by clouds, brilliance, and glory that shields human eyes from the full weight of His majesty (Tawrat, Exodus 24:15-18, 1 Kings 8:10-11, Ezekiel 1:28). This is an incredibly significant vision, as Allah rarely reveals such things except to those, He is calling closer to Himself. This dream is profoundly positive for you; it suggests that Allah is inviting you into a deeper relationship with Him and assuring you of the eternal home He has prepared for those who love Him. Allah is calling you to surrender more fully to His will, to seek Him with your whole heart, and to live in the light of eternity. This is a gracious gift from the Almighty, showing you the glorious hope that awaits those who walk faithfully with Him. May Allah guide you into all truth as you continue your spiritual journey. Don’t hesitate to write us back if you have any questions.
